South Korea will increase the number of flights to and from China to 80 a week by the end of this month, and further to 100 a week from March, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said Friday.
He made the remarks at Friday's meeting about the South Korean authorities' policies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Korean authorities resumed issuing short-term visas to travelers from China on Feb. 11 as the spread of COVID-19 infections in the country subsides.
Earlier this week, China said it will resume issuing short-term visas to Koreans starting Saturday (Feb. 18).
At a briefing on Friday, Han said there are currently 62 flights a week between South Korea and China.
South Korean authorities will decide next week whether to lift a requirement for travelers from China to be tested for COVID-19 before and after departure, a minister said.
The number of Chinese tourists arriving in South Korea in January more than tripled from a year earlier to 30,648, Reuters reported, citing a monthly economic report from South Korea's finance ministry.
